How to be Mindful with Dr. Jennifer Jones
Had fun talking about sex, love and happiness with my friend Jaime Kalman! Please scroll to middle for funnest part!
I’m an advocate for love, deep, romantic love. It’s my passion, my fuel, and my profession. I believe that love is the reason for living. So when I read recent brain research showing that those who take SSRI (Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor) medication to help with depression (i.e., Prozac) may have some issues with experiencing the neurotransmitters associated with love, I was shocked! This was something out of a horror film! Just imagine if people really understood the risk they were taking by taking certain anti-depressants!
You see, what this means is that for those who are dating, you may not every feel the connection you are looking for to know when you’ve found “the one.” For those in a relationship, it may interfere with your ability to feel love, and for parents, it can make the task of parenting entirely unrewarding. SCARY!
So, if you feel you must take medication, talk to your doctor about a medication that is not an SSRI. Even better, go to therapy with a Ph.D. educated psychologist. We know that good therapy is as effective or even more effective than medication. Let’s consider this wisely because as you know, life is too short to be anything but happy.
